These middens contain the remains of a range of shellfish species such as:- alikreukel, mussels, Siffies (a small abalone) rock mussels as well as fish, seal and birds eaten by the coastal dwellers.
Artefacts such as stone anvils and small hammers as well as remains of hearths are associated with with the food waste. These middens are up to 5000 years old.
Activities at Still Bay Harbour
From June to August you can watch the Southern right whales from the harbour.
Anglers love to fish cob and elf/shad at the harbour in the company of seagulls usually feeding on anything the fisherman might throw their way.
Small fishing boats can conveniently launch their boats from the ramp while behind the safety of a wall.
Surfers are usually surfing or floating on their boards in the waves around the harbour.
Harcourts, an estate agency in Still Bay saw a need for tidal information. Consequently they erected a board on the harbour. First of all it shows the date, then the time of ebb-tide and high tide, sunrise and sunset as well as the position of the wind.
